VA WC Lawyer, Wyck Sweeney

Bio:

Wyck Sweeney is a workers’ compensation attorney with HammondTownsend, where he represents injured workers throughout Richmond and the surrounding Central Virginia communities. Wyck is exclusively practicing Virginia workers’ compensation law, helping employees secure medical benefits, wage replacement, and fair treatment after workplace injuries.

Wyck is licensed to practice law in both Virginia and Tennessee and brings a diverse legal background to our workers’ compensation practice. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the College of Charleston in 2007 before moving to Washington, D.C., where he gained early legal experience as a research assistant on one of the largest criminal antitrust cases in U.S. history – and later as a paralegal with a nationally recognized corporate immigration law firm.

Wyck received his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2014. While in law school, he worked with the Athens-Clarke County District Attorney’s Office, the Western Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office, and Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, handling matters ranging from homicide to intellectual property disputes.

Following law school, Wyck began his legal career in Nashville, Tennessee. After initially working in the music industry managing bands, he transitioned into litigation and represented the State of Tennessee. He later served as an Administrative Judge in the Tennessee Healthcare and Finance Division, where he presided over 600+ cases each year and issued thousands of written orders. This experience gave him a deep understanding of administrative law, evidentiary standards, and decision-making from the bench—insight that now benefits his injured-worker clients.

In 2021, Wyck returned to his hometown of Richmond with his wife to raise their family. He transitioned his legal work to focus on workers’ compensation advocacy, motivated by a lifelong connection to working people and firsthand experience alongside individuals in construction, agriculture, and the service industry. He is passionate about helping injured workers protect their rights, secure medical treatment, and obtain the wage benefits they deserve.

Outside of work, Wyck enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking, cooking, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and being on the James and Pamunkey Rivers.
